Growth Energy’s Buis Responds to RVO Rumors

The government is shut down – but rumors are spreading about the 2014 Renewable Volume Obligations the Environmental Protection Agency must set as part of the Renewable Fuel Standard. Media outlets are reporting on a draft EPA document regarding the 2014 RVO proposed rule – but Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis says the rulemaking process for 2014 isn’t final and his group isn’t commenting on the unverified draft document. Buis says there are several steps in the process before a rule becomes final and that process is on hold because of the government shutdown. He’s hopeful the shutdown will end soon so the rulemaking process can resume – rather than everyone reacting to premature reporting of rumors or unverified leaks – allowing the EPA to follow proper procedures to propose a rule for everyone to comment on. Buis says someone irresponsibly leaked market sensitive information. Because of the dramatic economic impact on commodity markets – he says there should be an immediate investigation by the Justice Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to determine if this was an attempt to manipulate markets such as corn futures, ethanol futures and/or RINS markets.
