HAT History

How HAT got its start

Hoosier Ag Today was born out of a need to provide a voice for Indiana agriculture. As agriculture in the Hoosier state began to change and grow in the early 21st century, there was a void of information for and about the industry on the radio. Veteran farm broadcaster Gary Truitt had a desire to tell the story of the great economic promise and potential of Hoosier agriculture. In 2006, he founded Hoosier Ag Today, a series of programs that focuses on the news and issues for and about Indiana agriculture.

This new approach to farm programming has been well received by the Hoosier agricultural and broadcast communities. “Your commitment to this critically important sector of economy is admirable and appreciated,” said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, who also serves as the state’s Secretary of Agriculture. “I like the way Gary is heading with Hoosier Ag Today because he is going to focus on Indiana agriculture,” noted Steve Lankford, General Manager of WRAY AM/FM in Princeton, IN. Several major Indiana farm organizations partnered with Hoosier Ag Today in multi-year agreements. "One of Indiana Farm Bureau's strategic goals is to build a positive image of agriculture and Farm Bureau for our members and other key publics," said Lew Middleton, IFB director of information and public relations. "We believe our partnership with Gary Truitt and Hoosier Ag Today will help us achieve that long-term goal. As an Indiana-based company, Hoosier Ag Today will be well-positioned to serve the information needs of Indiana farmers and agribusinesses."

Hoosier Ag Today uses the latest technology to deliver time-critical information to farmers and non-farmers alike via local radio stations and the internet. Hoosier Ag Today is owned by Truitt Communications, a family-run business involved in a number of agricultural and communications ventures. Hoosier Ag Today is dedicated to serving its listeners, readers, and advertisers with quality service and information. Hoosier Ag Today will continue to grow and change to keep pace with the dynamic agricultural industry of the state. Check back often to see our progress.
