While 4-H is the cornerstone of the State Fair, the Indiana FFA has a big presence at the fair. The FFA quadrangle is one of the more popular designations at the Indiana State Fair. This year it will be decorated in soybeans in keeping with the theme for this year’s fair. According to Rachel Schmidt Indiana Northern Region VP, “We are going to do some real eye-catching things this year.” In addition. FFA will have their traditional “Putt Your Way Through Agriculture” putt putt golf game and a play a

rea for children.

This ambitious undertaking requires a lot of volunteers, and State Sentinel Travis Olinske says they come from all corners of the state, “Each one of our districts has a work day and sends FFA volunteers to the fair to work the exhibit.”

He said that many of the people who visit the FFA display are not really sure what FFA is, “A lot of people will think we are the Future Farmers of America.” Orlinske explained the organization changed its name in the 1980s because the organization was about much more than just agriculture. He told HAT that FFA promotes personal growth, career success, and premier leadership. He said the FFA volunteers are very passionate about their organization and love to share that enthusiasm with those who visit the display at the fair.
