Donnelly To Serve on Senate Ag Committee

In Congressman Joe Donnelly talks with Indiana farmers after the Farm Bill Now rally

Indiana Senator-elect Joe Donnelly received his committee assignments for the 113th Congress on Wednesday. Donnelly will serve on the Agriculture committee, as well as the   Armed Services, and Aging Committees. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve the diverse needs of Hoosiers, especially our men and women in uniform, agricultural community, and seniors,” he said. “I look forward to working on all issues important to our state as Indiana’s next U.S. Senator.” Donnelly replaces Richard Lugar as Indiana Senator. During his career, Lugar served on the Senate Ag committee where he was its Chairman for many years and led the development of US farm policy for decades.

Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock praised the appointment of Donnelly to the Ag committee, “Indiana Farm Bureau is pleased with the appointment of Senator-elect Joe Donnelly to the Senate Committee on Agriculture. Farm Bureau looks forward to working with Sen. Donnelly on the Agriculture Committee, which has such a significant role in determining federal ag policy. As a leading agricultural state, his new role on the committee is critical to Hoosier farmers.” During his appearance before the Indiana Farm Bureau state  convention last week, Donnelly said he had requested an appointment to the Ag committee. He will be sworn in as Indiana’s next U.S. Senator on January 3, 2013.
