Based on conditions September 1, Indiana’s 2013 corn production is forecast at 979.4 million bushels, up 64 percent from the 597.0 million bushels produced in 2012. If realized, the expected yield of 166 bushels per acre would be up 67 bushels from last year’s 99 bushels per acre. The 5.9 million acres for harvest is down 2 percent from the acreage harvested last year. As of September 1, corn condition was rated 66 percent good to excellent.
Soybean production is forecast at 251.0 million bushels, up 12 percent from the 223.6 million bushels produced in 2012. The expected yield of 48 bushels per acre is up 4.5 bushels from the previous year. The acreage expected to be harvested for beans, at 5.23 million acres, is up 2 percent from 2012. As of September 1, soybean condition was rated 62 percent good to excellent.
U.S. corn production is forecast at 13.8 billion bushels, up less than 1 percent from the August forecast and up 28 percent from 2012. If realized, this will be a new record production for the United States. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 155.3 bushels per acre, up 0.9 bushels from the August forecast and 31.9 bushels above the 2012 average. If realized, this will be the highest average yield since 2009. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 89.1 million acres, unchanged from the August forecast but up 2 percent from 2012.
National soybean production is forecast at 3.15 billion bushels, down 3 percent from August but up 4 percent from last year. If realized, production will be the fourth largest on record. Based on September 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 41.2 bushels per acre, down 1.4 bushels from last month but up 1.6 bushels from last year. Area for harvest in the United States is forecast at 76.4 million acres, unchanged from August but up slightly from 2012.
