ASA, Other Groups Support Legislation for National Labeling Standard

The American Soybean Association sent a letter to the House of Representatives earlier this week with more than 370 organizations supporting the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act. Interest groups across the U.S. are pushing state-level labeling mandates that will exacerbate consumer confusion and increase food prices – according to the groups. GMOs have been an important part of the nation’s food supply for the past 20-years – and ASA says leading health and regulatory organizations have concluded GMOs are safe. The Association says a national labeling standard will give consumers, farmers and small businesses certainty and improve clarity for foods carrying a GMO-free label by creating a national certification program for foods produced without bioengineering. ASA encourages House members to support this legislation.
