Indiana Farm Bureau to Celebrate 100 Years at Annual Convention
Indiana Farm Bureau will be holding its annual conference Dec. 6-8 in Fort Wayne at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. Registration is open now and it’s a special year for IFB. IFB President Randy Kron said, “This will be the kickoff of our 100th year for Indiana Farm Bureau. 1919 was when Indiana Farm Bureau was started, so we’re going to come to celebrate 100 years, our birthday, all the way through from the start of this convention and then the finale will be at the 2019 convention.”
He said they have a fantastic lineup of speakers at this year’s convention. Keynote speakers include motivational speaker Colonel Danny McKnight, a retired US Army Ranger who was portrayed in the movie Black Hawk Down, and Charlie Arnot, CEO for the Center for Food Integrity. Kron says Arnot will cover consumer thoughts and trends in food.
“It’s for the farmers, for our members, to understand what consumers are thinking. How do we communicate with them? What’s important to them? Those things are really, really important as we move forward because you can read a lot of negative things on the Internet. We’ve got to figure out how to communicate better with the consumers.”
Kron added that the networking that takes place at the event is often times just as valuable.
“There’s no doubt we’re in challenging times right now with agriculture. And being able to talk to each other and figure out what the little things are that we can do. If you can save a penny here or there, that’s going to make a difference this next year or two on whether we survive or not. And those discussions bring a lot of value to our farm.”
