Well, you know what they say about the weather in Indiana. If you don’t like it – stick around, because it will soon change! Between Friday, Dec. 23 and Friday. Dec. 30, we are talking about an increase in daytime high temperatures of about 52 degrees!
“We are quite warm to finish the week Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday,” says Hoosier Ag Today Chief Meteorologist Ryan Martin. He adds that we’ll soon be seeing above normal temperatures for a seven-day stretch beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 28, with highs between the mid-40’s to mid 50’s which should melt off the snow and ice we received a few days before Christmas.
“We’ll have well above-normal temperatures Wednesday and Thursday,” says Martin. “It will dry for the most part – more clouds Thursday then Wednesday. Then, we see a little bit of moisture trying to lift up into the state from Friday right on through the weekend.
“The Friday-Saturday time frame for moisture looks to be somewhat hit-and-miss with probably no more than about thirty-percent coverage, but then late Saturday afternoon through Sunday, we see it better rain potential. Combined, I think we’re looking at a quarter to three-quarters-of-an inch of liquid coverage at 100% of the state from Friday through Sunday afternoon.”
Martin says the warmer weather could bring some unstable air and possibly thunderstorms with it to kick off the new year – before the return of much colder air.
“Another round of moisture is showing up here next Tuesday,” says Martin. “Rain and thunderstorms and could bring anywhere from a quarter to one -and-a-quarter inches of rain. Once again, we’ll see 100% coverage.
“The warm air wants to hold through mid-week next week, but cool air is pooling, and at some point maybe late next week or into the following weekend, we see that cold are breaking loose, coming down and taking control of our region but it’s not going to happen here right away.”
Ryan says if last weekend’s snow, heavy wind gusts and freezing temperatures kept you shut inside for most of your Christmas – the warmer air will be a much welcome change as you make plans now for celebrating New Years’ Eve.
“We look for above-normal temperatures for at least a seven-day stretch from this Wednesday right on through next Wednesday. That encompasses the turn of the year,” says Martin.
