Vital Farms Expands Plans for Egg Facility in Seymour

.

Vital Farms—which is based in Austin, Texas—has provided an update on its planned egg washing and packing facility in Seymour, Indiana.

The company says that the facility, slated to open in 2027, will be known as Vital Crossroads, or VXR, reflecting Indiana’s official state motto as the “Crossroads of America,” according to Inside INdiana Business.

The overall project represents a $250 million investment, which includes the facility itself as well as a small number of company-owned farms being developed in Crawford and Lawrence counties.

Vital Farms first announced plans for the facility in June 2024. At the time, the company said the plant would be developed in phases with more than 150 jobs being added in the first phase.

However, the company says that the facility will now be built in one overall phase. As a result, approximately 400 jobs are now expected to be added by mid-2027.

Additionally, the facility will support 165 family farms, as well as new company-owned farms in southern Indiana, the company said.

“Since we announced plans to build our new egg washing and packing facility in Seymour, we have nearly doubled our family farmer network from more than 300 in June of 2024 to over 575 today,” Vital Farms said. “We are well on track to meet the increased capacity that VXR will create for the company.”

The facility will be the second of its kind for the company, behind its location in Springfield, Missouri. Vital Farms said the new facility is expected to help generate over $350 million in additional revenue.
