Building a Professional Family: The Unique Bonds of the Indiana ALP

The application deadline for the Indiana Ag Leadership Program is Monday, the 19th. Why do you want to be in the next ALP class administered by AgrIInstitute?

“The who’s who of Indiana ag are the past participants and graduates of this program,” says Shawn Gearhart with Brock Grain Systems and current ALP class member. “And personally, I feel honored that I’ve been enabled to be part of it. It truly has been a life-changing opportunity that, obviously, I would encourage others to participate in.”

The two-year program consists of 12 seminars: 10 around Indiana that typically go Thursday-Saturday, a one-week seminar in Washington, D.C., and a two-week international trip. Our class is heading to Ghana and Kenya next month.

“Our class of 28 has really come together as a family and we have really unique, special bonds with our class that we’re going to carry through the rest of our career and lean on each other. I was thinking earlier on how I would describe that. I feel like for me, I was really able to develop similar bonds like that through my experience in the FFA and then being in the College of Agriculture at Purdue.”

But Gearhart admits that it becomes more difficult to have that as you grow in your career.

“This has enabled me and allowed me to really pour back into that networking, that ongoing learning, and really get back into sharpening the axe or sharpening the pencil in in my ag focus in Indiana.”

Gearhart says this opportunity came at the perfect time in his life. If you’re ready for a lifechanging experience, you can apply for the Ag Leadership Program at agriinstitute.org.
