The Andersons Inc., which is based in Ohio, is planning a major expansion of its ethanol production plant near Logansport in Cass County.
According to Inside INdiana Business, the agricultural and renewable fuels company says it will invest $60 million at the facility in the unincorporated community of Clymers, which is expected to increase its ethanol capacity to 30 million gallons by mid-2027.
The Andersons said the expansion will help the company meet rising market demand for ethanol in the U.S. and beyond.
“The Andersons is focused on growing our Renewables business through strategic investments that improve our efficiency and meet the needs of the markets we serve,” Mark Simmons, executive vice president of renewables for The Andersons, said in a statement to Inside INdiana Business. “This $60 million investment…enables us to leverage our production expertise to extract further efficiency from an already highly productive plant to meet the rising demand for high-quality ethanol.”
Clymers is located southwest of Logansport, about 90 miles north of Indianapolis.
The company said the facility was chosen for the expansion because of “several strategic advantages” that make it ideal for growth.
Those advantages include access to high-quality corn, the availability of two class I railroads, and the plant’s proximity to the Chicago export market for Dried Distiller Grains, a nutrient-rich co-product of the ethanol production process that serves global feed markets.
The Andersons employs 55 people at the Clymers plant. However, the company said because the investment focuses on process improvements at the facility to increase production, it does not anticipate adding new jobs as a result.
“This project focuses on improving plant processes and debottlenecking that will reduce our energy and carbon intensity,” the company said.
The Andersons operates four ethanol plants in the U.S. that produce more than 500 million gallons of ethanol annually. The others are located in Denison, Iowa; Albion, Michigan; and Greenville, Ohio.
The company also has nearly a dozen other operations in Indiana that provide support for farmers through agronomy services, grain storage and merchandising, as well as whole fertilizer and contract manufacturing.
