Two conferences have been merged together this year to create a three-day event that you won’t want to miss.
“We have two conferences that have really similar information. They’re reaching similar audiences, so to make it easier for people to come and get all of that information in one spot, they can now get all of those benefits with just one event,” says James Wolff, County Director of Purdue Extension-Allen County.
The event is now the Indiana Horticulture and Small Farm Conference coming up March 3, 4, and 5 at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Center in Danville (1900 E. Main Street).
Wolff says these long-standing conferences, historically coordinated through the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Department and the Diversified Farming and Food Systems group, will continue to offer high-quality networking and educational opportunities, now strengthened through a unified effort.
“The traditional Horticulture Conference is going to occur on the first day, February 3rd, and then a little bit on the second day, February 4th, which is where we’re going to mix those two conferences together,” he says. “Then, the Small Farm Conference is going to be towards the end of the conference on February 5th, but it really works to reach all of those Horticulture audiences.”
Wolff says the Small Farms Conference will address the needs of Indiana’s specialty crop producers—and those who may only farm 20-to-40 acres.
“You say 20-to-40 acres, but we’re even thinking smaller than that,” he says. “They may be growing produce in their garage with microgreens production, so we’re trying to reach all of those audiences that are really up to that 20-to-40 acre size that are really doing the mixed-type production. They may have vegetables. They may have some livestock. They may have fruits. They may have mushroom production. That’s really the group that we’re really trying to hit.”
