Ethanol Fight Isn’t Over: Trump Throws Weight Behind Year-Round E-15 for Farmers

Corn growers say they’re not giving up on the fight to get year-round E15 through Congress after another failed attempt in the House. In fact, they received a boost from President Trump earlier this week in Iowa.

“I’ve made new fair trade deals with countries covering half of all U.S. trade, scoring giant wins for the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers like no other President has ever done. That’s why I got such a tremendous vote from the farmers that I love,” said Trump during a speech Tuesday night in Clive, Iowa, just outside of Des Moines.

Trump’s speech focused in on affordability and the economy. As part of those trade deals he mentioned, he focused largely on ethanol and biofuels.

“Japan will now allow the United States to supply up to 100 percent of automobile ethanol and import large amounts of avation biofuels from the United States. That’s great for you [farmers]. That was part of the deal that we made. The United Kingdom will import nearly $1 billion of ethanol—that’s part of their deal.”

Trump also recalled the promise he made to Iowans during his campaign for President for year-round E15, if he made it to the White House.

“I am trusting Speaker Mike Johnson and [Senate Majority] Leader John Thune to find a deal that works for farmers, consumers, and refiners, including small and mid-sized refiners—to get [year-round] E15 approved, and they’re working on it. They’re very close to getting it done.”

Trump added if that bill supporting year-round E15 makes it to his desk, he’ll get it signed.
