Another Restaurant Looks to Go Stall-Free

Just in the last few months a number of leading food companies – including McDonald’s and Burger King – have announced plans to move toward gestation crate-free supply chains. Another restaurant has been added to that growing list. Cracker Barrel has announced it will work on plans to procure stall-free pork. The announcement was made in a joint statement with the Humane Society of the United States. A Cracker Barrel Vice President said there is an evolution in attitudes regarding higher levels of animal welfare in meat production and the company recognizes gestation crates may not be the best method to meet those levels of welfare. Cracker Barrel did say this procurement strategy will take time as most major pork producers still use individual stalls to house gestating sows.
