Corn Growers Gathered in Washington at Crucial Time

Corn farmers from across the country are in the nation’s capital for meetings, Capitol Hill visits and electing five new members of the National Corn Growers Association Corn Board. NCGA President Pam Johnson says the timing of the visit provides corn growers with an opportunity to work together in developing forward-facing, insightful policies for NCGA and a chance to speak directly with members of the House and Senate at a critical moment. Whether debating farm policy, ethanol issues or many others – Johnson says corn farmers have a unique chance to take their message and push for action in real time.

Action team and committee meetings started Monday and continue through the day today (Tuesday). The group’s action teams and committees are small groups of growers charged with defining and implementing programs under their jurisdiction. They work in a variety of subject areas – including ethanol, public policy, production and stewardship, trade policy and biotechnology, research and business development, and grower services – to further the mission of NCGA in creating and increasing opportunities for corn growers.

The Corn Congress will hold its first session tomorrow (Wednesday) with a vote on the ratification of Chip Bowling as First Vice President for the 2014 fiscal year – which begins October 1st. The Congress will also elect new board members. Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning will allow time for Capitol Hill visits with Senators, Representatives and key staff. Then Corn Congress reconvenes Thursday after lunch with reports from the chairs of the action teams and committees and farewell remarks from outgoing board members.
