Navigating Farming’s Economic Cycles

How can we navigate agriculture's economic cycles, and what does the state of the ag economy look like today?   In this episode of The Dirt, host Mike Howell sits down with Executive Vice President and President of Global Retail for Nutrien Ag Solutions, Jeff Tarsi, to explore how growers can confidently manage the upswings and challenges of the ag economy.   They discuss what today's challenges look like compared to the 1980s farm crisis, from high interest rates and various geopolitical issues to yields, land values, and commodity prices. Plus, Jeff uncovers and explains how improvements in efficiency, technology, and our understanding of soil health have strengthened our system and economic resilience over time.   They also explore how relentless consistency, a willingness to try new things, and a 'controlling the controllables' mindset can help growers thrive through economic swings on the farm.   Looking for the latest in crop nutrition research? Delayed Senescence, Push Tests, & Recent Vacations

Guess who’s back.  Glenn’s back!  Sal Sama is the solo host today joined by special guest, Glenn Longabaugh, for this episode of The High Ground powered by Premier Companies.  As you may already know, Glenn is the Technical Agronomist here at Premier Companies, and he’s here to share a 2025 harvest update.

What’s the green stem phenomenon?  Glenn will explain what’s happening with delayed senescence and the factors involved.  He’ll also tell us why our corn has gotten so tall this year and why he believes yield will be strong this season.  Sal and Glenn will discuss why each grower should consider doing a push test on their corn and how that could help prioritize harvest to minimize yield losses.  You’ll also learn how drying corn can help prevent fungi from continuing to degrade stored corn and why growers should be considering maintaining phosphorus levels based on what was removed by the crop.  This is another episode you’re not going to want to miss!

Episode 108: The Only Constant Is Change

This week we are joined by Chad Berger...a 32 year veteran ag teacher from Bremen High School to talk about the evolution of ag education and FFA. The Indiana State Legislature continues to run roughshod over education, seemingly tinkering with requirements on whims. The latest is the "Graduation Pathways" edict, which Ryan fears will have plenty of unintended consequences including making graduates less useful.  But, what's it all mean for future of Ag Education?
