Stop Suicide: A Conversation with Colleen

Colleen Carpenter provides evidence-based training and targeted consultation to build long-term capacity to prevent suicide and improve mental wellness. Her mission is to help organizations and communities tighten their safety nets so that people who are struggling with suicide and mental health issues are identified and helped. Besides providing training and consultation, she is the Director of Stop Suicide Northeast Indiana coalition and Allen County’s Governor’s Challenge veteran suicide prevention project called Action Over Silence: End Veteran Suicide. She also sits on numerous local and state level mental health and suicide-related committees, including the Indiana Suicide Prevention Network’s advisory board. In early 2024 she became a Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) facilitator to help individuals identify the tools that keep them well and create action plans to maintain mental wellness. She has master’s degrees from Loyola University Chicago (sociology) and the University of North Carolina (public health). She has won local and national awards for her work in suicide prevention. The Hoosier Ag This Week Podcast for 5/10/25

On this edition of Hoosier Ag This Week: We have planting updates from four different farmers from four different parts of the state in our Hoosier Ag Today Crop Tour! You'll hear from Jenna Scott in Delaware County, Ryan Rippy in Montgomery County, J.R. Roesner in Dubois County, and Denise Scarborough in LaPorte County as they share their progress this Spring.

You'll also hear from David Cobb with Clean Fuels Alliance America about the burdens that EPA and the federal government have placed on the biofuels industry, which have also created burdens for corn and soybean producers as well.

And you'll meet retired U.S. Army Colonel Joe Ricker, who started At Ease Orchard in Hancock County to train veterans in need to become beekeepers and farmers. Ricker's farm has drawn the attention of a lot of folks--including Indiana Governor Mike Braun, who made a visit to Ricker's farm last week.
