Indiana Cattlemen Honored at Annual Banquet

The Indiana Beef Cattle Association (IBCA) honored the state’s top cattlemen and women at their Annual Convention in Indianapolis. Beef producers from across the state attended to salute the men and women who provided the leadership for the Indiana beef industry over the past year or over their lifetime.

At the annual awards banquet, the IBCA leadership presented the 2016 Friend of the Industry Award to Monica and Jerry Urick of Urick Concessions. A staunch supporter of the Indiana beef industry, Urick Concessions has served as IBCA’s professional concessionaire during the Indiana State Fair for the past 8 years.

Outstanding Cattleman of the Year Award was presented to Bill Eberle of Pine Village. Bill approaches his herds of 250 commercial cows and 500 backgrounded yearlings from a position of experience, research, and documented standards of practice. As the owner/operator of the Indianapolis Stockyards in Rockville, he has offered his assistance and expertise to young producers and schools around the region for many years.

The most prestigious award each year is the coveted Robert C. Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award. The 2016 award winner was Dr. Andy Boston of Paoli in Orange County. Dr. Boston has had an amazing 40 plus year career of service with many accomplishments and honors along the way. Following a period at Morehead State University as a professor of agriculture, Dr. Boston accepted a position with Purdue University Extension where he worked directly with beef producers for over 20 years. Currently, Andy serves as an Emeritus Board Member on the Indiana Beef Evaluation and Economics Feeding Program using software programs that facilitated genetic and economic evaluation for the improvement of beef cow herds.
