President Mentions Farm Bill in Weekly Address

In his weekly address Saturday – President Obama mentioned the farm bill as he talked about a variety of proposals Congress left sitting on the table when they left Capitol Hill for the election recess. If Congress had gotten its act together – the President said – we would have a farm bill to help farmers and ranchers respond to natural disasters like the summer’s drought. He added we would also have made necessary reforms to give our rural communities some long-term certainty.

After going home and listening to their constituents – President Obama said Members of Congress should return in November and do this work – do the right thing for farmers – among others. He called on those who agree with him to tell their members of Congress we can’t afford to wait any longer. President Obama said there’s been enough talk – it’s time for action.
