After snow overnight last night we settle in for several nicer days. Temps are going to be on the rise through the day today. We may not get much above normal, but we should be significantly warmer than what we saw over the past few days.

That warm air continues to build through the weekend and into early next week. Saturday, we see a few more clouds in the north but sun in the south. Then Sunday partly sunny skies should be in over the entire state. The warmest air arrives for Monday with temps in the 50s to near 60. However, clouds will be building, and we can’t rule out a few scattered showers after noon and toward evening. Moisture totals there will be limited to a few hundredths or a tenth, with coverage at 30%.

Additional rain sweeps across the state for Tuesday, but now looks to linger through most of Wednesday too. We are raising our overall rain potential for the event to .5”-1” combined through the entire 2 day period. There can be some changeover to snow in northern areas overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but then we go back basically to all rain through the balance of Wednesday. We should see 90% coverage out of this Tuesday-Wednesday precipitation event. The map at right is a look at the potential set up next Wednesday midday.

Colder air comes in behind the system for Thursday. We can see some snow in northern areas with little to minor accumulations, and then a little more rain south. Clearing begins at midday Thursday and should yield increasing amounts of afternoon sunshine. Colder air takes temps to below normal levels. We continue with partly sunny but cold condition for next Friday through the following weekend.

The extended period still has 2 threats of precipitation. We are toning down the action for the 11th, with only a smaller chance of light snow and minor accumulations. However, the moisture shifts farther back in the period to our second system around valentine’s day through the 15th. Moisture there looks more impressive, and we will allow for either rain or snow. Temperatures look prone to big swings over the next 2 weeks.
