Corn production in Indiana continues to grow, and that is attracting more seed companies to focus on the Hoosier State. Channel brand seeds is expanding their presence in Indiana. Morgan Dugan with Channel says they are finding good growth potential in  here, “Indiana is one of those great ag states, and we really love the growth we have had in Indiana.” He told HAT the expansion has been fueled by the expansion of their full time professional seed dealer network, “We have been hiring a lot of great seedsmen in Indiana.”

Dugan says Channel’s one-on-one approach to working with farmers leads to better yields and better profits, “It is seedsmen who understand your farm. It is seedsmen who spend time on your farm all summer long to help you make better decisions.”  In a year like 2014, with a likely delay in planting and fertilization, a seedsmen can really come in handy, “It has been wet and it has been frozen so farmers have some tough decisions to make. Those of the kind of decisions we love to be around for to help farmers figure out when how late is too late, or when do I switch to beans.” He said that is when success really happens.

While Channel is able to offer Monsanto technology, Dugan said it takes expertise to help growers utilize that technology properly, “Seedsmen can use their product expertise and work with growers to help them figure out the best product for every field they farm.” Dugan said the technology is moving so fast they completely change their seed offerings every few years.

How have Indiana growers responded to the Channel approach? Dugan said he has received positive feedback from many Indiana farmers, “I talked with some Indiana growers at the National Farm Machinery Show last month, and they told me they have been Channel loyalists for the past 3 years because of the seedsman they work with.”
