Spring Crop Insurance Deadline March 15

Spring Crop Insurance Deadline is March 15

Cody Gault

Time is running out for farmers across the country to buy crop insurance on spring planted crops. Thursday, March 15th is the deadline to purchase policies. Cody Gault with Farm Credit Mid-America says to not let your plan just roll over.

“Sit down, go through the numbers, know what you’re guaranteed. Work with your lender and know what coverage you need, and be able to leverage that for your marketing plan for ’18. We’re all well aware the margins are tight, we are in a down ag economy, and so we have to protect that margin as best as we can. There’s no better way to do that than with crop insurance and no more affordable way to do that as well.”

The spring price guarantee for corn is $3.96, soybeans is $10.16, and spring wheat at $6.31. The primary spring crops include corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, forage seeding and many varieties of fresh and processed vegetables.
