State Fair Queen in Her Element

Visitors to the Indiana State Fair are likely to get a glimpse of the reigning Miss Indiana State Fair, Erika Burghardt from Tippecanoe County. She traveled about 7,000 miles in June and July meeting Hoosiers, promoting the state fair, and getting back to a place she loves, the 4-H fair.

“I was a 10 year 4-H member and very proud to say that, and then I was an 8 year swine member and I took many other projects as well. So I consider this kind of like my twelfth year in 4-H! I’ve been very lucky to be a part of this organization for so many years, and it is such an hour and I am so grateful to be the official hostess of the 2012 Indiana State Fair.”

If young people would like a picture with Erika, don’t be afraid to ask. She told HAT as a young 4-H member at the fair she always looked up to the queen and now she is reaching out to the kids as much as possible.
