Technology Helping Golden Harvest Seed Advisors Make Better Recommendations

#Plant19 is nearly here and Golden Harvest Seeds is excited about their new digital offering that will help their seed advisors make more informed seed decisions. Golden Harvest Agronomist Nate Prater explains the benefits of E-Luminate.

“We can make recommendations that would take 3 to 4 years of familiarity with the farm in maybe a year to year and a half because we’re taking not only soil fertility, soil type, management, we’re taking in consideration weather data. If we see that the long-term weather forecasts are going to be hot and dry, we can select that in the spring or in the winter and hedge the scenario in our favor.”

In addition to those benefits, it will also provide details specific to weed, disease, and insect pressures to make hybrid recommendations on a field-by-field basis.

Prater says the old, “Hey, it worked last year. Let’s use it again next year,” method still works, but he says that makes it harder to figure out if one of their new hybrids would work better in that area. E-Luminate will help your seed advisor hedge your bets and spread your risk with those factors built in.

“When you choose a hybrid that is for a 180-bushel yield environment and the yield environment this year was 250, things are going to change a little bit. So, we have to watch that in two ways. One, we don’t want to kick that hybrid out that doesn’t have that top end phenomenal yield potential because that’s not going to happen every year, but at the same time we don’t want to jump on the bandwagon of those high yielding hybrids and then we get a hot, dry year and they just completely fall on their face.”
