That Great State Fair Food is Only a Week Away

The Indiana State Fair is just one week away and the 2012 version, The year of Dairy Cows, promises plenty of great Indiana grown food. Danica Kirkpatrick with Indiana’s Family of Farmers tells HAT much of it will be located in the new DuPont Food Pavilion.

“It used to be the Pioneer Our Land Pavillion and we’re going to be there helping people understand where their food comes from,” she said. “Purdue Extension is going to have an exhibit helping people understand the new USDA My Plate that will help people be able to make healthy choices. They’re also going to have a general store with Indiana products so you can buy products that are Indiana made and grown. And the Red Gold culinary corner is the destination for lots of fairgoers who want to see cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs.”

Learn how to cook with beef and pork, and the dairy industry will also have many demonstrations. IFOF will stage the recipe trail again this year and that trail will lead to food donations to Indiana food banks. Donations totaled 2,000 pounds last year and the new goal is 3,000.

Indiana Family of Farmers is helping promote Indiana Dairy’s Dairy Bar at the fair, featuring those delicious milkshakes.

“This year they’ll have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry as usual, but this year they’ll also have a new lemon chiller milkshake. The grilled cheese sandwiches are also very popular and this year there is a new “MooChoo” sandwich at the Dairy Bar with Pepper Jack and American cheeses on sourdough bread.”

Janna Stillwell from Shoup’s Country Foods is looking for more entries for the Indiana State Fair Backyard BBQ Cookoff Saturday August the 11th at the fairgrounds.

“There are 5 categories for the cookoff which are ribs, pork loin, the open category, chicken, as well as the build a hog burger contest. We offer prizes and cash rewards up to $5,000 for contestants to compete in each division.”[audio:https://www.hoosieragtoday.com//wp-content/uploads//2012/07/IN-State-Fair-Food-just-a-week-away.mp3|titles=IN State Fair Food just a week away]
