World Pork Expo Set to Open in Iowa

World Pork Expo Checkoff preview

The Pork Checkoff is participating in many parts of World Pork Expo this week. Pork Checkoff spokesperson Cindy Cunningham encourages pork producers traveling to Iowa to take advantage of the many learning opportunities, one of which is the Pork Academy.

“It’s an opportunity for producers to have short seminar sessions, 45 minutes in length, on the latest information, latest technologies, and really information that they can take home and put into practice on their farm,” she said. “We’ll cover a wide girth of topics including the pork quality initiative, talking about social media in pork production, looking at compensation in pork production. We’re also talking about sub-therapeutic growth promoting antibiotic alternatives.”

The seminars will be offered Wednesday and Thursday. The Pork Checkoff Hospitality Tent is the gathering point at World Pork Expo for food and information. Also Wednesday and Thursday they’re featuring a business lunch starting at 11:30 in the tent.

“Wednesday we’ll be serving BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese and then on Thursday pulled pork tostados. The same information will be there both days. At 12:30 Elwynn Taylor from Iowa State will have a weather outlook for 2017, and Dr. Steve Meyer from EMI Analytics will share a market outlook at 1:30 both Wednesday and Thursday.”

World Pork Expo this week is at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, and HAT will have more coverage later in the week.
